The beatification of the martyrs which is the Church official recognition of their witnessing to Christ evokes in me a sense of gratitude to God who called them and gratitude to them for staying faithful to the end.  Being witnesses is for me a very central way of being and living the event.  This is what this occasion also teaches us.  I recall the theme of the XXVth General Chapter. The witness of Life of the Martyrs in the face of persecution, their endurance, perseverance and the final pouring their blood as a libation strikes me as a loud call to imitate their dexterity.  The personal conviction that nurtured their commitment to Christ is another aspect of their witnessing that calls mind attentions as well.  They are a gift to all of us.
