Luis Plana Rabugent

Born on July 20, 1914 in La Sellera (Gerona)

Professed on August 15, 1931

Shot July 26, 1936 in Lleida

Luis Plana was born in the village of La Sellera, in the province of Girona, on July 20, 1934, and was baptized the following day in the local parish of Our Lady of Sales. Three years later, he was Confirmed by His Excellency Francisco de Paula Mas, Bishop of Mallorca.

His parents were Don Francisco Plana and Mrs. Margarita Rabugent, who had eight children, of which five would enter religious communities including Luis.

On May 4, 1926, he went to Cervera. Later he recalled this date as pleasant and important to him. But he would begin his Postulancy in Alagon, on July 7, 1926. After two years he would return to Cervera to continue studies in Humanities.

He entered the Novitiate in Vic on July 29, 1930. He received the habit on August 14, 1930, and after the year of trial, he made his First Profession on August 15, 1931, which was also the feast of the Assumption of Our Lady.

Ten days later he moved on to Solsona to pursue the study of Philosophy. He would also begin his courses in Theology in Solsona, though he would have preferred to study in Cervera. Eventually he arrived in Cervera on August 26, 1935. At the end of the course, in June 1936, he became ill and could not take all the exams in the second Theology course and didn’t know when he could continue. So he wrote to his brother John on June 26:

“We are peaceful and not think of anything special.”

He had many notable talents. It was a very observant religious, pious and charitable although he could be sullen at times.

As he shared his life and love for his missionary call, he would also die with his classmates who were guided by Father Jove.
